About Me

Professional

My general areas of research and study are the sociology of organizations with a focus on social movements, nonprofits, the environment and corporate social responsibility.  My dissertation focused on sustainable building practices and the LEED certification and accreditation systems.  I am also interested in the use of mixed methods, particularly combining qualitative comparative analysis and narrative analysis.

Other topics that I’ve worked on include the market for youth and children’s services in the Phoenix-Mesa Area, spirituality in the workplace and closure in grassroots nonprofit organizations.

Personal

For fun, I like to do fiber art such as knitting and crocheting.  I’m a fan of good stories and poetry.  I enjoy good food - both cooking and getting other people to cook for me.  The outdoors inspires me and I like to hike, climb and swim.  I’ve traveled to some amazing places in the world and always have more places I’d love to visit.

I also train in Aikido, a nonviolent Japanese martial art.  I’ve taught at Living Aikido in Ojai, California and I received my shodan at the Aikido Center in Sacramento, California under sensei Matt Fluty.
