Research

Generally speaking, my areas of research interest are organizational sociology, and work and occupations.  In particular my focus is on nonprofit and voluntary associations and social movement organizations.  My research looks at how the ideals of organizations influence the way the organizations works and those who work in these systems. I also have an interest in mixed methods research and developing new ways to look at narrative and organizational identity.

My dissertation was on the USGBC’s LEED certification system for green and sustainable building practices.   I looked at both the LEED AP accreditation system and how it shifts the way that professionals do their work.  I also examined the choice to build green for organizations who chose to build using the LEED certification system. More information about my dissertation can be found on this page.
